The Westchester County Department of Social Services offers a wide range of help for individuals and families of low income and for families under severe financial pressure from catastrophic illness or family breakup. Our aim is to keep families together and, where possible, keep them within the community. This helps the family survive as a unit and reduces its dependency.
Employment and workforce development are major priorities as we move aggressively to help individuals gain self-sufficiency through "Work First" employment programs.
Medical Assistance helps people who cannot afford to pay for all of their medical care. Most MA in Westchester County is provided through Medicaid Managed Care.
The Housing Office provides temporary shelter to homeless families, singles, and childless couples in the county. The office has a contractual relationship with not-for-profit agencies for case management services in shelter facilities, transitional residences and emergency apartments. Homeless programs are designed to lead the homeless population toward permanent housing and independence.
